Jean Mulhern, director, Wilmington College Watson Library, must receive all entries no later than Jan. 7 to be eligible for the contest. First, second, and third prizes of $50, $25, and $10, respectively, will be awarded for the top three essays at each level (high school or college) and some additional students may receive honorable mention recognition from the judges.
One of the goals of the contest was to encourage students to read some of King's writings. All students were encouraged to show in their writing that they reflected on one or more of King's speeches or essays. The essays were judged by faculty members of the FSU Department of Language and Literature.
